I cant get in touch with my wedding photographer, what do i do?

Original Question:

”So I have found a lovely photographer for our wedding/engagement photos. The problem is is that I have had a lot of problems communicating with her already. We are having an engagement photos taken at the end of the month and I have previously asked her is she had any guideline about what to wear. She told me that she did and she would email me closer to the date. I waited for a while and then followed up with her about a month away and joked that I am a planner. She wrote back about 5 days later and told me of course, and that she would send them by Sunday at the absolute latest. It is now Monday, so I politely checked in on her and have yet to receive anything. This situation has happened a view times previously including her sending me the contract. Every time she does respond she apologizes for the delay and is very sweet. However, I am just a bit worried. I don’t expect someone to drop everything to respond to every email, but I feel like a week is enough time, especially when I’m paying $2000. What should I do? Thank you!”

Honestly it sounds like your photographer is a bit unorganized and doesn’t have a proper process in place for client management. Based on her rate, I'd say she is still learning the ropes and based on her lack of timely communication, I'm guessing she is not even a full time photographer. Working another job full time job would explain why she isn’t able to email you at the drop of a dime, and subsequently forgetting to follow up for a week. If she takes more than a week just to get you a prep guide for your engagement session, I dont even want to imagine what you are going to go through trying to get your wedding photos. Red flags all over the place.

Luckily you have choices and here are two:

You can bite the bullet, and continue working with her, and be worried and irritated all the way up until your wedding day OR

You can cut ties now, sacrifice your deposit (but at least not pay the balance) and find a FULL TIME photographer, who has time to communicate with you properly and allow your mind to be at ease on your wedding day knowing that they are handling your day like the professional they are.
